New to forum and exhaust gasket question

Greetings: I recently bought my first scooter, generic 50cc gy6 in less than pristine condition. The seller told me it needed an exhaust gasket and gave me one with the purchase. When taking off the exhaust I found that it didn't have the acorn nuts and in fact was missing one nut.

The gasket given to me by the seller was a round ring. When I bought the acorn nuts they came with what I would call a full face gasket, metal coated with holes for the studs and a large hole for the exhaust. Is the full gasket preferable to the smaller round gasket? Thanks in advance. I also noticed that the welding between the actual exhaust pipe and the flange was not fitted well. The flange is not 90 degrees to the pipe, so the "land" left is not consistent. I am not sure if the round gasket rides in this land, but I think it would be difficult to seal if it does. I can try to post a pic if this description isn't clear.

First, welcome to the Forums.
What brand bike did you get?

Scoots do not absolutely need to have an exhaust gasket to run.
Any nut that will fit the threads will work. While your running it down, drop some lock tight on it, to secure it.
Either Gasket will fit, though. I use the full sized, metal coated on my bikes.
The welds on almost everything stock is crap. If the flange isn't 90* to the exhaust port, you will blow the gasket.
As long as the holes from the engine and into the exhaust pipe line up, with nothing in the way, you should be fine

Poor welding from the factory,I've never used a ring gasket so I couldn't say how well they wrk or don't work. But I have used a full gasket with no problems.

Thanks for the quick responses! I am going to work on it today and think I will use the full gasket. I already bought the acorn nuts so will use them. I'm not sure of the brand, it has decals that say M-50 and some other numbers.. I think it is a "Speedy" style scooter with the headlight in the handlebar fairing. Looks like this from the internet but not this brand http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...9QEwAg&dur=382
