Question about testing a 1P39QMB

Greetings,

A friend of mine got me a scooter from auction for cheap(I like to tinker), but it looks like it's been a wreck. My question is can I test the engine without the airbox? It got ripped off. I'd like to know if the engine is usable before I invest any time and money.

Also, is there any extra info I can get about the scooter. The name tags are gone. VIN: *LA2TCB0474JF-----*

Thanks

You should be able to run the motor without a airbox, but I would get some form of filter added before doing any real driving.

I have tested my 50cc GY6 without the airbox to rule out a rich fuel symptom. It starts and idles just fine. I run my airbox so dry it probably runs fine under load without it attached :P
