The minichops are cool. They look to have the same engine as the Grom and Mada$$.
I looked at quite a few of them, as well as the smaller Kikker Hardknock bobbers before buying my scooter.

Gray Area
Yes there is a gray area,The semi automatic tranny [No Clutch)
seems to be a gray area, but seems to be acceptable. How fast it is capable of doing is another gray area. Even the brand name 50cc mopeds can do over 30 MPH. and most are fully automatic. As long as i dont get clocked over 30 MPH i should be fine. All are 48/49 cc. The one i have been riding for the past 10 or so years(Black one) is 48cc semi auto 4 speed.Over the years i have got pulled over several times for obvious reasons if it dont look like a duck than it cant be a duck. But the Mass. Moped registration states this. [According to Massachusetts law (M.G.L. Chapter 90 Section 1), a "motorized bicycle" (also known as a “moped”) is defined as a pedal bicycle which has a helper motor, or a non-pedal bicycle which has a motor,] So basically i am riding a [non-pedal bicycle which has a motor,] http://www.massrmv.com/rmv/forms/20017.pdf Like i said,, Worcester Mass,i have been riding my mini chopper on the streets for about 10 years now,get pulled over a few times each year.Never got a ticket. My 2 new ones i have not yet had the chance to street ride yet because of the weather. Orange one has a manual 4 speed yet i will still ride it till if and when i get a ticket or warning. The blue one is my girl friends bike. Its a semi auto 4 speed. Cant wait for the 6 ft of snow to go away,,, And no i do not ride them to work, ladders wont fit. |

Some States are more specific
Some States are more specific regarding pocket bikes
and mini motorcycles. Is a Mini chopper a pocket bike? Is a mini chopper a mini motorcycle? Is a pocket bike a mini motorcycle? Good luck trying to figure that out,, check out this link. If some one figures this out please let me know. http://injury.findlaw.com/product-li...ket-bikes.html |

I can't find the notation but I remember reading a few years ago that the Mass RMV had declared the Roketa MC-114 a motorcycle because of the wheels and manual shift.
They're not the only State according to this person. But, after hunting about a bit, apparently the laws in Indiana say these are classed as motorcycles due to the shift mechanism...which means learner permit, license, registration, insurance, and waiting a long time until the skills test is scheduled. I keep waiting for NY to figure it out. I've had mine up to an indicated 55 mph on a level stretch. It's also similar to the Cub 50cc which was considered a motorcycle back in the day.
