Follow the thick red wire off the battery. The relay or solenoid will be at the end of the wire.

I found my solenoid and pressed the button and nothing,i tapped on the solenoid and it started.tried this three times and it worked every time.i also jumped the studs and that also worked every time.so this would be the solenoid and not the starter correct?

Yep, sounds like your starter is fine. If you're lucky the local auto parts or motorcycle shop might have a relay that will work.
