Good idea. The hands always hit the asphalt in a crash. I've seen the moto GP riders slide across the track on their knees and hands after a high side like they are on ice.

I would suggest looking on Craigslist for motorcycle specific gloves. If you are patient, some very good quality gloves will come up for remarkable prices. I bought one pair of Olympia Kevlar gloves for $10, a pair of Rev'it summer gloves with an air vent for $15, and a pair of almost new Olympia 340 Kevlar gloves for $20. All the pairs were in good condition with no tears or damage.
