GS Motorworks-Maybe, Maybe Not

I just got off the phone with a manager at Tao Tao about the fate of GS Motorworks. Lately when ever I try to access their site I get "Server not found Firefox can't find the server at www.gsmotorworks.com." or some other computer message that seems to indicate that there's a problem with the web site. No company leaves their web site down for weeks. It's economic suicide. So I called the number I found for GS M. A nice man picked up and said, “Tao Tao USA, how may I help you?” Hmmm so Tao Tao has GS M's phone number.

I asked if GS M was out of business and was immediately whisked to a second person who mumbled something like “The demise of GS M is greatly exaggerated.” He said he had to call somebody and the next thing I know I'm talking to a stern person from Tao Tao. “I don't know anything about GS M”, she said. “Really, then how is that you have acquired their phone number?” She didn't know. She knew that they owned Eagle ATV parts, “We bought them from AA scooters right before they went out of business.” So I said you know that GS Motorworks scooters were branded Eagles. “I don't know anything about that.”

It was a fun five minutes. She knew John Sanchez was a former Tao Tao employee. John was the parts guy at GS M. She knows about AA Scooters, Inc, GS M's parent company. “But I honestly don't know anything about GS Motorworks”. I didn't tell her the last address for GS M was the same as Tao Tao, that might have just gotten her mad.

So, after a discussion that was like dealing with a Politician's Press Secretary here it is. GS Motorworks may or may not be gone. The people at Tao Tao never heard of them even though GS M was the first online seller to carry Tao Tao, Tao Tao USA has the same phone number and John Sanchez was an employee.

IF they are gone they should RIP. GS M was one of very few reliable dealers five years ago that delivered fast, stood by their warranties and actually carried parts on hand that you got in a week. I'm proud to have an Eagle in my garage.
