Average lifespan on a Chinese scoot

What's the highest mileage you guys got from your China scoots???

I got almost 10,000 from my Bashan crate scooter before I sold it and now have 17,066 on my CF Moto Fashion (Helix clone). Mileage is in the hands of the owner. Tales of 20,000 miles-plus-China scoots abound. If you beat on it like a rented mule it won't last. Ride it like you want it to last and it will.

I was just thinking in town trips.

I seen new replacement engines available.

By the time you buy a motor and then take the time to install it you could buy a new or used one. I can buy a 150cc Tao Tao assembled and delivered for under a grand.

My mpg hovers around 70 mpg for my 250 if that's what you want to know.

I can only speak for myself, I've gotten a lot of miles out of the used 2008 Johnway I got three maybe 4 years ago. I worked on it when I first got it and now it's dependable. I ride it like it was intended to be ridden. It's not a hot rod cycle it's just daily transportation when the weather allows. It's showing over 7K on the odometer now. An odd thing in Oklahoma, anything with two wheels and an engine is considered a motorcycle and they are tagged and taxed by year not original cost. So a cheap scooter is taxed the same as the most expensive Harley. The tag for my old scooter each year costs more than the combined tags for my old car and pickup.

What KZ1000ST doesn't realize is the Racer-50 might not be available next year.

If you maintain your stuff it will obviously last much longer than neglecting it. Common sense. And I've seen brand name scooters die from neglect as fast as any "China" bike. Here's my take on the whole longevity issue with any brand of scooter. I tend to want something new/different after four to five years. Since I take care of my scooters they are easy to sell or I just pass it on to someone who needs cheap transportation. Not saying that I'm rich, its just when I feel I got my money out of something its just easier to replace it. Usually 40,000 miles on a scooter. I passed my Burgman 200 on to a friend when I downsized to a Liberty 150. Burgman was hard and expensive to service, plus when I started parking in the garage it was just to big for my tight parking spot. Now, I keep cars forever. I'm a Subaru and Toyota fan. I expect 300,000 miles out of cars before its replacement time.
