Squealing brakes

I have two Peace 50cc scooters. Bought both used, and they run fine. Only concern? The brakes squeal every time you apply pressure. I've had one person tell me this was usual and typical, but that doesn't make sense.
Any ideas?

Chinese scooter brakes tend to be squeaky. Some more than others. Usually the shoe material glazes over quite readily. You can either get new brake shoes,or try to sand off the glaze. I just let mine squeak.

yeah ventoman is right, they almost all squeak. take your rim off and sand the drum with 60-80 grit sandpaper to make it rough, then clean with brake cleaner or degreaser. should help for a couple thousand miles
