Gy6 157 hit 4500 Chinas today!
My lovely scoot hit 4500 Chinas today, and it's running great. Just changed the oil today, and it looks great too. I've been a Nazi about maintainence, which I think accounts for it's excellent performance.
I hope it lasts another 4500 Chinas.

My 150cc GY6 just turned 8,900 the other day. I don't doubt that these little engines will last for many more miles than even I can imagine. I expect it to be the last 150cc scooter I will own. It just plain works.

I wouldn't say it's the mileage that makes my bike run great, I'd credit that to being properly tuned and maintained.
Mine does run great though.

Well blueboy, I don't know what else to attribute the increase in power and fuel mileage to, except the additional miles of operation. I certainly maintain it well, but it has needed no tuning to speak of. I haven't touched the carb (adjusted, cleaned, or removed) since June 2012. That is when I switched to a K&N filter and installed a 115 main jet. Last time I adjusted valve lash was at 2500 miles, have checked them a couple of times, but no adjustment was needed. Still running original spark plug, coil, and cdi (have changed the plug boot though). Run 14gr sliders in original variator, with oem clutch, run the same belt as you, it now has over 6,000 miles on it. Same tires, and roads driven, and always buy my gas at the same station.
Last year, 2700 miles averaged 84.9 mpg This year, 1200 miles have averaged 88.3 mpg I don't think I'll be adjusting or swapping any parts out real soon....no reason to. |

My theory is that the Chinese maintain some fairly tight tolerances in building the engines and it takes awhile for EVERYTHING to break in. Bearings work harden and even the valves loosen up in their guides. I won't get into the ring seating discussion since I use the "Easy Does It" method as per the manual and I'm not changing my technique in this life. I only know my 150cc has been maintained but not pampered and runs better every passing mile. It pulls the steepest hills around here with much less effort than my CN-250 although I credit that to the 150cc weighing 125 pounds less than the 250.
