What's safe? RE: Variator Weights After BBK
So I toyed with variator weights a lot with 63ccs and found that I liked either 4g or 5.5g roller weight equivalent, 9g was too heavy, 6.5g wasn't accelerating enough, etc.
Now that I got my bbk I initially used 3 4g and 3 9g dr pulley slider weights and I found that to be a perfect setup. Acceleration was really quick and I could hit 51mph on flats. Now I've got the Koso Variator I upped it to 9g slider weights. My acceleration is "smooth"er than ever, but it's not as quick as it was with my 6.5g slider setup. Is it safe to go back to 3 4g and 3 9g weights or will that over rev my engine? Gonna order me a tachometer soon so I won't have to play guess work. :/

I probably wouldn't go lighter than 6g.
But depends on your weight, too.

I'm gonna test it and see if I get my speed back. If it sounds like it revs too high I guess I may as well just put my old variator back in until I get some 7-8g sliders...

51.79mph downhill, I seem to have lost a few mph, but that's to be expected. I can now go 45+ on flats, and almost 35mph up hills, gained my acceleration back, and all seems well.
There's a variable in comparing it to my old top speed of 58mph and that is I put seafoam in the tank these last few speed runs. Comparing before and after seafoam with 9g weights I seem to lose about 4mph. Once I run this seafoam through the system I should theoretically get 54-55mph downhill with my current weight setup. Time to ride!

Don't just guess. A cheap digital tach/hour meter is like $20 and will tell you exactly how much you're revving.
I don't care what anyone thinks, if you want maximum acceleration without losing any top speed, regardless of how much you weigh (contrary to popular belief), you simply tune your variator weights so that you're staying in the power band of the engine at around 7,000 to 8,000 rpm. That way you're always putting maximum engine power to the ground during acceleration and top speed. I don't know why people post and repost the same bad advice that heavy people need light weights and lighter people need heavy weights. There is only one correct variator weight for a specific engine and CVT setup in terms of top speed and acceleration and rider weight has nothing to do with that selection. |

I am actually waiting for my performance variator and clutch spring set... it will be interesting to see the after comparison. Looking for more acceleration and power through acceleration.
Now that ziGG is running like a swiss watch, I just want to see what the s63cc is capable of.
