valves
The id tag on the scooter says valve clearance 0.06-0.08mm but doesn't list what the intake should be or the exhaust any idea what I should set them at...I've seen a lot of things said about the subject but I'm not sure what I should do since it doesn't list different measurements for both just lists a range...please help I need to get this thing back on the road asap

I gather by those specs it's a 50cc scooter. Those metric numbers translate to .003 inch. The clearance is the same for the intake and exhaust. If it was a 150cc engine it would be .004 intake, .005 exhaust.

Definitely .004 inch intake, .005 exhaust then.

OK I adjusted them like u said but before I put everything back together I just want to stop being confused..The id tag says .06-.08.....that's one hell of a large gap...I would have to add my .025+.024+.011=.06 just to get that gap...that's a far cry from the .004 and .005...I would show u a pic of the id tag but can't figure out how to attach anything

A millimeter is .03937 of an inch. When you multiply that by .06 it equals .0023 inches. Multiply .08 by that it equals .00314. When you see numbers like .06 instead of .002 for a valve gap you know it's a metric number. A 150cc should have a metric number like .11 or thereabouts for a number around .004 inch.

OK well seeing how math was not my best subject I'll take your word for it...now one more thing what would the spark plug gap be the id tag says 0.4-0.6mm...The closest I come up with is .406 mm = .016 inch is that correct

The valves work best if the intake is set at .004 inch on the intake (0.1016 mm.) and .005 inch (0.127 mm.) on the exhaust. Originally everybody went with .004 for both but experience taught that setting the exhaust at .005 was better in the long run.

.016" is not enough spark plug gap. Most people seem to prefer the .030" area, some a bit more...and some (like me) a bit less. I run mine at .025"-.027"....Scoot has 5300 miles on it, has never failed to start, has never left me on the side of the road, gets outstanding gas mileage, and climbs hills like a mountain goat. Picture of plug in my profile, album section....this OEM plug is still in scoot, also running original cdi and coil...all these high performance, racing, etc, electrical components, are a waste of money in my book.

I'm such an idiot. I didn't read all the way up. Yes, .028 inch is where I set my spark plugs. With CDI ignition just being close to that is good enough.

Plug gap= .25
Valve intake= .004 (150cc) .003 (50cc) Valve exhaust=.005 (150cc) .004 (50cc) Now ignore what your owners manual or stickers on bike say, these are the correct gaps.
