what do u have? 2 or 4 stroke? Honda, Yahama,Chinese ?
Need atleast some info brother. I have never seen spark that way. Or jamming a screwdriver in the plug boot n grounding it... check the leads to the coil with a multimeter n everything put back together.

Make sure the KILLSWITCH is on the run position. Also check for spark on the frame.
If it Sparks on the Frame but not the motor then your ground from the frame to the motor is bad. If it doesn't spark on the frame or the motor then start checking for: a. Bad Boot cap b. Boot cap not making good contact inside the Coil wire(Unscrew it and cut off 1/2 inch off the COIL wire and screw the Boot Cap back on. c. Check the Coil wire at the COIL itself some screw onto the coil as well make sure it is nice and tight screwed on. d. Check the wires going to the COIL make sure they are not loose or one came off and they are on nice and tight and not touching one another. E. After that It could be the COIL is actually bad or the CDI or the Pick Up Coil or Stator. To Test for "E" you need a VOLT METER or start replacing parts starting with the COIL then the CDI then the PICK UP COIL then the Stator. Lefty

If it's stock...change the coil & CDI...mine and my sons used to do the same, $30 bucks was fixed and running. Otherwise, ruled out other possibilities first.
