Hybrid scooter for suburban travel
Do they make a good hybrid/electric scooter that has enough speed to drive from suburbs to the city? I travel about 20 miles either way to work and with the soaring price of gas I need a scooter that can get me where I'm going. Traffic for about half the ride is bumper to bumper.

A gas electric hybrid scooter is more expensive and more complex, so they don't sell so well.
A good 125cc gas scooter can cruise at 55 mph and return 75+ mpg. I think a good gas scooter is a better choice, unless you just enjoy tinkering with newer tech.

Any number of dealers sell this. It's CARB approved, if you live there, and it will get 100 mpg easily and reliably.
http://www.powersportsmax.com/index.php/cPath/38_231 I own a 50cc version of this and get 120+ mpg regularly. Once you've mastered the gearbox with no clutch it will be a great commuter. I know a woman in New Hampshire who owned one, loved it and said it conquered hills with ease. She is 70+ years old and has owned many different scooters but liked this one best. My 50cc bike has been stone ax reliable and required nearly no maintenance.
