Fuel leak
I had a strange situation the other day; I had a random fuel leak from my otherwise dry scoot.
I took the bike out for a short ride and when I returned, parked it on the side stand. A short while later, I noticed a puddle of gas; I traced it to the fuel sending unit. I had recently filled it and typically keep it on the center stand. I dried up the fuel, tapped the retaining ring on the sender to ensure tightness, and haven't seen any leakage return. I'm wondering if I over-filled the tank and the tilt from the side stand caused it to leak. What type of gasket does the sender use and would they be prone to leak? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks, Gene |

I had a similar experience when my scoot was new. After having removed the PAIR system, during the PDI, I routed the fuel tank vent line to a high point on the frame, and added a fuel filter to keep dirt, dust, etc. out.
One time after filling the tank, and then driving about a mile to McDonalds for coffee, I parked it on the side stand. When I had finished my coffee, and walked out to the scoot, I noticed a small wet spot under it. Further investigation proved the problem to be fuel dripping from the vent filter, even though it is a good foot higher than the fuel tank. The vent nipple is located on the left side of the tank, so if full, and parked on the side stand, vent is covered with fuel.....then as the air and fuel warm, (after coming from a nice cool underground tank at the gas station), the expansion forces it out the vent. My solution: I don't park it on the side stand, and after fueling, I make sure I run it more than a mile or two before shut down. This happened to me only the one time. |
