New Scooter Idle Question

Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new here, I've posted a couple times, but this is my first thread.
I recently bought a TaoTao, Lancer 150 from KillerMotorSports; it arrived last Wednesday and I have done the PDI. It started up fine and runs well, but the start up idle is a little questionable.
For instance: Last night I started it up, it fires right up, idles nice and high like it should; about 15 seconds later the idle drops and it's almost stalling.
I adjusted up the set screw, but once it warmed up a bit, it's then above 2000 RPM. I set it back to around 1800 and looked it over, drove it for a bit, and it ran fine.
Is it possible the enricher is cutting out too early? I wouldn't think there is an adjustment for that, though.

Also, during the PDI, I replaced the vacuum lines and ran across a hose that appears to be a drain of some sort ... not the fuel bowl. It comes from this device, which I'm not sure what is (the evap can is gone, along with the vacuum, fuel shut off on the other side).

The 2 big lines run down to the motor, one connects to the bottom of the valve cover, the other is just dangling, looking like a drain line. Last night, I covered it with my finger and I could feel suction, but it didn't make any change in idle. I did disconnect the vac line from that unit and the idle dropped severely until either plugged or replaced.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gene

That is part of the PAIR System. Sucks air in the dangling hose, adds it to the exhaust system. Some say this is to help burn off leftover combustibles....I say it is just a way of reducing the parts per million number, of the pollutants coming out of the tail pipe, by adding some fresh air.

Looks like this.....right? If so, I found this on you tube.....might help if you are so inclined

Thanks RKS.
That's exactly it. It shows in the video that the, supposed drain line, is actually an air intake to the system; that explains the suction I was feeling.

Any ides about the idle/enricher?

Thanks again, G

I doubt that there's a problem with the enricher considering it's age. If it is idling at 1800 now, after enricher shuts off, I'd leave it alone....as long as the rear tire isn't starting to turn, (this usually starts at 2000+ rpm's).

As long as it's starting, idling, and running decent, go ahead and put a thousand miles on it, check your valves again at around 500 miles, do a few oil changes, let it loosen up a bit.

If at all possible, find a gas station that has non ethanol gas, and use it exclusively. It may cost you $.70 more a week to run it, but will save you a bunch of headaches down the road.

PS: Just noticed you are near the coast.....most marinas have non ethanol....at least they do up here in the Finger Lakes Area.

I would definitely check the enricher. I highly doubt ethanol gas to be your issue, as I currently run 3 gy6 bikes in CT, where there is no non-ethanol gas sold, and have been doing so for 5 years.

I agree that it's probably not the enricher, but I'd still keep it on the list. I had a heck of a problem with idle speed and stalling on my older ('07) Roketa. Once I removed the PAIR system the situation was WAY better.

Thanks Ebuddy. I could probably cap off the system without actually removing it as a test.
As far as the enricher, I was wondering if it could be defective from the factory. I might try calling tech support from the seller. Mind you, this isn't a crisis, but more of an inconvenience.

That big hose you're holding should be quiet. Not long after I got my 150cc it started to run like crap. I pulled that hose out and heard it sucking air. I plugged it with a bolt. Just upstream of that hose is a one way valve and mine went bad and stuck open. It let air pour into the intake system and had it running lean. Once plugged it ran like a top and has continued to run just fine.
