No need for replacing.
Just have an idea of what your top speed is, and when you see it dropping (or when you notice a slow RPM increase over time, at a specific MPH; eg: Riding 35MPH @ 4k RPM, and now it's 4,5k RPM), then it's time to replace it.
Most of the time, belts don't snap, unless you do performance tuning or put BBK's in there. Usually they wear out, until top speed and highway MPG is compromised.
At that point, it's time for a switch.
I believe I can get 6k miles out of my belt... We'll see if it's going to get to that number or not.
But in any case, I have purchased a spare belt, and will be replacing the old belt, whenever I feel it's time.
