I remember having a moped when gas skyrocketed from $1 a gallon to like $1.60 seemingly overnight. This was right around 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. This put the oil speculators in overdrive and the prices jumped so high so fast. The equivalent to gas jumping from the average $4 a gallon now to $6.40 in a few months.

I felt no guilt riding up and filling up on 50 cents. Even with the 95 mpg on my Sym Wolf needing only about 2 gallons, that's eight buck when just over a decade ago it would have been 2. Certainly most people who've had jobs since then did not get a 400% raise. But I'll tell you who did, the oil companies posting record profits quarter after quarter even during the economic crash.

No there's no love lost between me and big oil.
