Commuting on your bike - safety tips. :)
This article was posted entirely in another forum I frequent. I enjoyed it so much I thought I repost here. Good info if you're a daily commuter like me or just a fair weather weekend rider. The tips just might save your life:

I especially like the idea of planning for other's mistakes. Drivers will cut you off and cutoff the car ahead of you, so you need to be planning where you will go if you can't stop in time.

Someday I would like to see the actual study
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/539...orcycles-study Scooters are safer than mopeds (50cc and under) presumably because scooter riders need a license and have training like the MSF. So 50cc and under riders can benefit from MSF even if they don't want the license. Also, http://ultimatemotorcycling.com/Moto...S_Crash_Study/ ABS dropped my insurance from about $99/year to $77 with Geico. |
Sweet, bnc! Be safer with ABS and save money!! What state are you in?

Reason to always watch Traffic!
Two days ago I was going to turn right at an intersection. I put my signal on (I know that it was on because I have an indicator ) I checked (out of habit) & a taxi was passing me in the breakdown lane! I guess he didn't believe the signal! Irish
P.S. Always check! The life that you save may be your own! |
"I guess he didn't believe the signal"
I have come close to getting my foot run over a few times in that situation, Irish. |

Irish, it gets a lot worse.
People are now trying to run insurance scams for the money. Just had that happen literally a week ago. I was second vehicle in keep turning right lane, the driver in front stopped for no reason and my front fender went under her KIA. She jumped out of her car, started screaming and swinging her arms to attack. No damage to her car and only scraped top of front fender. Some dialog and she was more irate, then was threatening violence! Last time I had someone do something like that, they literally tried to run me off the road at 70 mph. Removed my helmet and threw it at their windshield to stop them. If you were to "kick a door" now it would most likely be classified as road rage and you would get arrested. |
