What's the difference in stators?
Hi, can anyone tell me the difference in a 6pole stator and 11 pole stator besides the obvious, and can you use either one on a 150cc gy6 engine?

cant use the 11 except on certain bikes or something. 6 or 8 should be swappable

There are 4 pole, 6 pole, 8 pole, 11 pole, and I've heard of a 12 pole (rare).
The 6 and 8 are interchangeable. The 11 pole is a common upgrade for us guys with buggies running lights and winches. It does require rewiring or an adaptor, it is not a direct plug and play. The difference is the more poles the more amps it produces. The drawback is it also creates more parasitic drag on the engine. |
I haven't done a stator upgrade yet, but looking at the pictures of the 11 and 12 pole stators, it looks like the 11 pole stator is for an AC CDI system, as it has 10 charge coils and one ignitor coil. The 12 pole stator looks like it does not have an ignitor coil, so it would be for a DC only CDI system.
