Taking the wheel off won't help. Once the clutch is off, you need to remove the transmission cover. That is where you will find the gears.....in the transmission. Before you tear it apart, you may want to get a new oil seal for the shaft, and a gasket for the cover.....if you don't, you will soon wish you had. You will also have to make sure you get the right parts for your engine model number.

I'm sorry dwin51.....I made a mistake, not realizing we are talking about a 50cc scoot.
Yes, you will need to remove the wheel. There are videos on youtube that should help. Here is one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxIW7Pj_NEI |
thanks rks that's what I was hoping to see.alot of work to change out some gears.its a minarelli and was going to put the gears in my zuma but I might just get new ones

Since Minarelli can produce so much power in relation to the gy6, not many people see a need to change the final drive gears and spline. The gains are minimal.
Why do you wish to change the final drive? |
i have a 2002 zuma with low gears and was hoping to switch but its not worth it.ill just buy some gears for the zuma.2002-05 had very low gears which is great for hills but I max out at 37
