Piaggio
Alright...I have a 2009 Piaggio BV250 (5300 miles) I recieved this from a friend about two weeks ago. It has been setting in a garage for 1 years unstarted, It is fuel injection.
I brought it home started it up and rode 500 feet before it quit. It now starts but runs for 5-10 seconds then quits. When I give it gas within that 5 or 10 seconds it immediatly stalls the engine. Things I have done 1. Drained the tank as much as I could. 2, Put in 1 gallon of fresh gas. 3. Took the injector out and cleaned the nozzle using carb cleaner and a 12v battery 4. while I had the fuel line off I went ahead and turned the key over 4 times to see if the fuel pump was working and clear out the lines. Gas came out of the line each time. Looked like it had good flow. 5. Took out Sparkplug,,, had a spark. 6. I also took out the fuel pump and inspected the fuel filter and pump. All looked clean...no corrosion on wires. I know there was a recall on some the Piaggio fuel pumps but mine is not included. I checked with two different dealers. Besides those pump would run fine until they overheated then would run again once cooled. It acts as if its not getting enough fuel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated....Thanks much Brad |
Since no one had any ideas I kept digging and got lucky. It is a lot harder finding a problem when the item that is faulty has not completely failed. The spark plug was sparking when I checked it causing it to start but run only for a short time. The scooter finally wouldn't start which was a blessing. I was able to trace back and within 10 minutes the problem solved. I have worked on small engines on and off for the last 35 years and never had a sparkplug do this. I guess after talking to a few mechanics Champion is not thier go to plug. I put a NGK plug in and it pured like a kitten. Just in case someone else has this or a similiar problem...here you go

I have an '09 piaggio bv250, which was part of fuel pump recall. Sent piaggio the vin, they say it was replaced, but problem persists. Replaced champion with ngk plug, no help. Thoughts?
Also, did you have to bend the unused bracket above the fuel pump to remove it? Mine hasn't been bent. |
Check the connection at the fuel injector. A problem there is common.
