At 366 miles, I removed my air box, and installed a K&N cone filter. Needing a place for my breather tube to go (other than straight to the ground), I made a catch can from an old pill bottle. I know this has been discussed before, but don't know if the working results have.

Scooter now has 3751 miles clocked, have linked some pics of bottle and contents after 1249 miles of operation since last draining. Thought some of you might be interested....Bob

I was doing some post season maintenance on the scoot yesterday, and once again removed the crankcase breather catch can to drain it. I now have 5,785 miles on the clock, so that means 2,014 miles since last drained. Contents measured .9 of an ounce. Consistancy of water, nasty smelling, (almost like lacquer thinner) brown juice. The outlet tube on my can is still bone dry, no sign of anything ever having dripped from it. I've found that running in colder temperatures will increase amount of liquid produced. Makes sense, longer warm ups, cold rings and cylinders not sealing as tightly as warm ones, and etc.

I once read a thread, that suggested running the crankcase breather tube to a high point on the frame, and to put a small filter on it. (This is for those of us who have removed the air box, in favor of an aftermarket air filter) I for one, don't want the stuff I've collected, running back down into the engine. Know it contains acids, and other stuff that won't do your internals any good.

Update: Serviced my catch can yesterday, scoot odometer now at 7,007. After 1222 miles of operation so far this year, it contained just 6.8 cc's or .23 oz of condensed crap that looks exactly like that in the linked pictures I posted last year. Difference is that, 1200 mile of operation last year produced .45 oz...... this year 1200 miles, only .23 oz.
