wondering if anybody know s the stock roller size or weight in a 2013 tao tao 50 cc speedy 1p39qmb variator? and if can recommend a better weight to go with to gain more power and speed I weigh about 165lbs and I'm having trouble with climbing hills on my morning route to work

The 2013 Tao's Ive seen have 5.5 gr rollers. Thats about as light as you want to go without overreving. My solution was 5 gr SLIDERS (Im 250) and that worked well. The best mod was to replace the stock variator with a KOSO performance variator with the 5 or 5.5 sliders, that will keep you in the powerband. The stock variator tends to rev up the rpms off the line, dive down, then slowly pick back up. The engineered ramps remove that mid-lag Ive experienced with the stock part. Stay away from the "25.00 Ebay" performance versions. The boss fits too losely in the variator causing vibration and noise. KOSOs can be had for under 50.00

Depending on the hills you can go with 3 and 3 of the 4gr and 5gr sliders to get a bit more but I would invest in a tach. Running such light weights will give you the oomph you want but you will have to limit your speed based on rpms. For example if i run 4.5s im a banshee from start to cruising speed...bu thats only 30 mph because my rpms will be screamng at 8500 beyond that. I like to keep my cruising to 35-40 and accomplish that with 5.5 sliders on the performance variator and stay around 7800 rpms at that speed and im comfortable with that. From takeoff to cruising speed my rpms are at 7400 all the way up to 35 and then climbs to 7700-7800.

Ok sounds good I will look for a KOSO performance vari. What do you think about dr.pulley sliders vs rollers. Would it be worth spending the extra cash to go with sliders and also I see on you tube lots of guys say to remove the washer from the variator saying that it just restrict s the overall powerband. I new to this so I just wanna do it right with out goin overboard and sacrificing reliability

The spacer actually allows for faster takeoff but restricts top speed. Remove it along with the addition of the perf variator and you wont notice. People are split on rollers and sliders. i like em because i can run the same weight slider but get less rpms than that of a roller of the same weight. Scrappydog sells KOSO variators at a good price 69 bucks including your choice of sliders. Id try the 5's.. I have had good luck with both Dr Pully as well as the generic sliders.

Hi
I use DR Pully Sliders variators and clutches in my scoots

And to get the most performance I use a roller tuning kit first
http://www.scooterworks.com/prima-roller-weight-tuning-kit--16x13--3g-to-14g--products-1935.php#.UwShaU2YboY
Once I find a good weight for my performance needs I then get a quality set of rollers or sliders as the tuning kit is only for tuning not every day use
Take care and ride safely
Yours Hank
