Why? It's not like I have any control except for idle and WOT.
Just askn.

I don't have one installed at the moment, but I've had a scooter that came with one. Mostly it was just nice to be able to keep an eye on what the engine is doing. You can avoid over-revving it when you're going down hills etc.

If I could find a way to install an analog tach on my current scooter in a way that made it look OEM, I would do it. I'm not a fan of the digital tachs.

Hi Alan
A tachometer allows one to measure performance and effiency when changing parts ie rollers gearing etc its also allows one to stay in the powerband of the engine with out overreving
take care and ride safely dear friend

Cool. Just never saw the need on a scooter. All good enough reasons.

And you forgot to mention, a tach looks so damn cool on a dashboard!

Not really for digital tachs neither!

Analog all the way, though even today's analog instrument panels are in fact digitally steered.

Tachs are great to see how the engine is running instead of going by ear and a great tool when tuning . I think all scoots should have a tach

Most vehicles come with tachs these days. I have four vehicles and all of them have tachs. Well, my 1971 Chevelle has an after market tach, but my other car, truck, and scoot have factory installed tachs. I agree with what everyone else has said. They do have a purpose...but there is something so cool about reving an engine and watching that thing jump! I like them.

What's really hilarious is that my friends Honda Civic is a stick shift and doesn't have a tach. About the one application where you really need a tach and they don't put one.

I agree that it helps with tuning and measuring effectiveness of modifications.

Having been a mechanic for years , I have to agree! They are a BIG help when tuning! Also when shifting on the Drag Strip! Irish

If it's a '96-'00 Civic, tell him he can put in a gauge cluster from a civic in that year range that does have a tach, and the tach will just work. Plug & play!
