:scoot: Hey all I found this forum from a buddy of mine who told me to come here and seek advice. I'm pretty young at 22 and I'm looking to get into the world of scootering I've been hearing some hardcore enthusiasts say it's totally different from cycling so I'm all for learning. My reason for making this change is I was recently involved in a motorcycle crash on my Yamaha R6 (now sold) when an elderly woman shot out of a parking spot in Philadelphia while I was traveling about 50mph she clipped the front of my bike and I went flying down the road. Popped a shoulder out of place and shredded my gear buy I limped away virtually unscathed except mentally. I'm a little nervous to mount another sport bike after this ordeal but a week ago I rode a 50cc scooter and felt pretty comfortable despite my friends thinking I was noob for liking it. I don't really care for they're opinions because I'm fully comfortable in my skin and I know I need a transitonal phase if I ever mount another bike. I would like any tips from you guys about what type of scooter I should buy size, style etc. Also just anything you want to inform me about scootering! I look forward to hearing from you guys I will be completing my profile in the coming days I added a little to my profile for a general synopsis of myself. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to SD.

what type of scooter I should buy size, style etc. Only you can make that choice.

If you can ?, go test drive a few different makes and cc size to find the right one for ya. :)

Sorry about your accident. Glad your injuries weren't more extensive. I think you will feel safer on a scooter. However, you may want to look at a 125 or 150cc scooter. The 50cc scoots are good for only around 30-35 mph unless you deregulate them and do some mods. However, some of the 2 stroke 50cc scoots like the Yamaha Zuma and Aprilia SR 50 can be modded to go surprisingly fast. If you go with a 50cc scoot, get a 2 stroke one that can be modded for more speed so you will be less likely to want to move up to a faster scoot soon.

Thanks for the welcoming scooterwayne! Yeah I know it boils to me but when I'm new to something I like to gather as much information as I can. I see you have a Roketa one of the chinese brands. How has it treated you?

Hey wheelbender I feel blessed to be alive especially how cars zip through streets in Philadelphia. I was actually looking into the Zuma and I've heard the Aprilia sr50 can achieve 60mph as a 50cc! Shocked to hear that. Im actually going to test ride a Honda Metropolitan today:) The old scool styling looks cool

Hiya and welcome. Glad to know you made it through (relatively) OK. having been in some scrapes myself I know how fast things can go south' that's why I insist on wearing "All The Gear All The Time" Now as to finding the best "fit" Maybe if there is a dealership around you, you could go and "Try them on for size" and see what you'd be comfortable on before buying. You know, you might just find after awhile "Transitional" evolving into "Adjunct" 'cause here's the secret...Riding scooters is FUN!

Hey Spandi thanks a lot and I am also a firm believer of full gear on every mount up thankfully I was that day for sure! Riding scooters seems a blast I have only ridden one so far but looking forward to more for sure, most importantly it made me feel comfortable on two wheels again! May I ask what your riding?

That aprilia looks sporty man! I don't have any dealers in a 100mi radius of me though it seems? :/ How did you get yours?
