Hi, so I got cought speeding at night with my 50cc without restrictor, moded filter and exhaust, racing cdi, led lights etc. They stopped me, confiscated it immediately for technical analysis of the level of tuning and I'm charged for driving without a licence and by German laws I face 800 to 2000 EUR fee (depends on the level of tunning, I think I will get away with around 1000 EUR since it's with a standard 50cc cylinder), my licence possibly suspended for around 8 weeks and the guys at the german scooter forums say that in every case I'd have to also do around 20 hours of community service (are they serious????). The bike will be dissasemled, but not assembled back again, so I will get a bike plus a bag with engine parts.. and that's only if they don't decide to destroy it (legally they're allowed to !!! ). So yeah, whatever, just saying think twice before de-restricting if your state forbids it..

I know in BE and DE they're very hard on those scoots.
Best thing is to have your motorcycle endorsement (or similar license), which will allow you to ride 50cc's at higher speeds than the standard speeds.

Dang that sucks . Can you apply for a motorcycle license ?

Yeah, I should've applied for a motorcycle licence a long time ago, but if you register your scoot as a motorcycle you have to pay more for insurance, go to technical inspections, etc. so I was thinking I could get away with it forever. Well, I wasn't right. Cops here are tough on us since there is a huge ungerground scene with 16 y.olds riging tuned scoots with 120 kph on the streets and they chase scoots a lot.

I'm glad I live in FL.
However, in BE I can ride a bicycle (and presume scoot too), with headphones on, listening to music. At least, I could do that in the 80's and 90's.
In FL, cops stop me; which kinda sucks

So guys, I'm invited to 'a talk' at the police dept the day after tomorrow. I was negotiating and they agreed to return my scoot after I pay all expenses for the technical inspection and my ticket (they say they will tell me the sum later).

The bike will be in parts when I get it, but that's ok since I have to anyway restrict it back to 50 kph (31 mph) if I want to keep it.

The thing I'm concerned about now is how to restrict it again when I don't have the original restricted CDI anymore and, when I restrict it only mechanically (with rings), it overrevs really bad after 35 kph and I will surely blow the engine in a week or less with RPMs that high.

So please give me an advice for the easiest way of restricting its speed without the original CDI.

Thanks in advance guys.

I wonder if anyone has the stock cdi off of their scoot they might like to send you...

That'd be awesome. Especially if it's someone around Germany.

Sorry for your bad luck.

Can you just adjust the throttle cable so that it will not try to rev past the RPMS you want?

Hi all, I found an original limited CDI just like mine, but it still goes 70+ kph! Will put the rings as well and see if it will overrev again.

Hi medman, good idea! Will work on this too when I try again with the rings and the new CDI.

Thanks all for your support.
