this afternoon in the garage. Just put the engine back in the Xingyue AGAIN(aaarrrgggh). After the rebuild the oil leaked out of the crankcase thru the split in the central crankcase casting. Took it back apart, scraped the gasket material really, really clean before this assembly and so far no oil leak.:clap: Thought I had it clean enough the first time, shoot.:shrug:

Don't you just hate it when you reassemble something and it doesn't work ? (and you know what's coming) :nuts:

they are both 150cc, and practically the same scooter. A year difference in manufacture, but the same manufacturer---Xingyue. The one on the right was just rebadged the BMS.

Here's a newer picture. The Xingyue is almost ready to register and ride:

The BMS I still have to rebuild the engine.

Well after the first oil leak, which BTW ended up being the "hats" that hold the center stand were reversed pulling the crankcase apart, I fixed a second oil leak that was the crank seal on the right side of the engine. The seal behind the generator/flywheel bit the dust. Pulled the right crankcase cover off and replaced it. Now the gasket where the two halfs of the crankcase come together is leaking. Looks as if the gasket is being squeazed out like playdoh:

On the backside of the motor, right in front of the rear wheel. I'm wondering what caused this? Too much crankcase pressure? Or the sealer I used during assembly to seal the gasket:

What does everbody use to seal their gaskets during assembly? Or do you just put them in dry?

Permatex RTV the black one, has worked well for me, with or without gaskets.
Make sure both surfaces are really clean, (brakekleen is good for this) and always use a torque wrench.

How many miles do the average scooter rider(s) put on their scooter(s) before it is considered broke in? After it's broke in, I'm gonna do the first service.

If it were mine, I'd be servicing it 4 or 5 times before it was "broken in". By the time my scooter reached 1,000 miles, I was doing the fifth oil change. (one after removing it from shipping crate, then at 100, 300, 600, and 1,000 miles) Don't believe engine was fully run in even at that mileage....for it wasn't until the 2,500 mile service, that the oil screen came out clean, and debri free for the first time. Now I service it every 600 miles, and a gallon jug of 15w/40 gets me through one whole year. (5 changes)

When I lived in N.H. , I rebuilt many engines on motorcycles & I usually used the Permatex also! I never had a leak but I have to confess that I didn't use a torque wrench ( even tho I had both types , bar & click )
Lazy & lucky!:tup: Irish:scoot::nuts:
P.S. I used to buy wrecked bikes ,make one out of parts,& sell it! Now it would be harder because N.H. is a Title State.
